Building a functional team is a difficult task. It is not an easy task to hire a group of people, train them and expect the effective result from them. It takes an ultimate effort to build every one or a group a functional tool for the required project. Although open communication, trust, particular skill set, and analytical strengths matter to the success of a team but sometimes there is a need to develop these things outside of your workplace too. For team building, there have been many social activities and exercises to engage them.
A new concept of escape room in team building is being adopted by many team leaders across the world. Now the question of the moment is “what is Escape room in team building?
What is Escape Room?
Escape rooms are basically games. Employees are kept locked in an escape room and they have to solve a problem to get out in 60 minutes. These games are played through strategic planning and teamwork. They have to make an escape plan and it could be themed in any way like an escape from prison, from a submarine or from a bank etc. 4 to 12 people can be in one team. The rules and instructions will be available on screens there. Every one of the player uses their abilities to solve the game at their hand. They use different approaches and diverse work styles. They all work together and then they develop a teammate relationship with each other which is the ultimate goal. Due to its effectiveness, it has gained some popularity.
The reason for its popularity is quite clear to see. Let’s have a look:
- In this activity, they don’t make their escape rooms for only one person. They make their activities which require the engagement of other teammates too. The players have to adopt the successful strategies throughout the whole game. Everyone will get a chance to use their communication, creative, and critical skills to achieve the target. So, the whole teamwork will let them win the game.
- Next thing that they learn through escape room is time management and quick performance. The team will usually have 1 hour to accomplish the game. Every team structure themselves well enough not to waste time around and due to the consistency of outcome. This activity tests their abilities to perform well in less time.
- Now we all are aware that real work is done without any comfort zone so these escape room activities push employees to their boundaries so that they don’t crack in work pressure. Less time and immediacy of the results push them to think outside of the box and deliver the effective results. These things bring closer the teammates in a number of ways like trust, companionship, dependency, and acknowledgment of their skill set all because of this shared experience.
